Grants

Bike & Build will disburse a portion of the proceeds from our 2011 tours to affordable housing groups across the nation through a competitive grant application process. All grants will fund affordable housing projects chiefly planned and executed by students and young adults, ages 18 to 25.

Eligibility Requirements
Bike & Build welcomes all housing groups and service organizations to submit a grant application for consideration. Our program aims to mobilize young adults to affect the affordable housing cause -- we welcome applications for established programs, as well as those for innovative and non-traditional projects.

Bike & Build requires grant applications for projects:

  • Applicants must have current 501(c) (3) status at the time of submission. Documentation required.
  • Grant requests must be between $500 and $10,000.
  • The project must substantially involve and engage young adults (planning, implementation, etc).
  • Applications must come from strong and active organizations; Bike & Build will not fund proposals from individuals.
  • Applicants must request funds that impact affordable housing on a local, regional, or national level.

Selection Procedure
During the course of our events, Bike & Build participants will review, evaluate, and discuss the applications we field. Funding decisions will be made - as a group - by each event through prescribed criteria and voting systems. All funding decisions will be certified by Bike & Build's staff.

  • Applications due by web submission only on Friday, June 10th 2011
  • Bike & Build’s staff will review all submitted applications and verify that they meet the above criteria.
  • All complete applications will be divided amongst our eight trips. Participants on each trip will then review, evaluate and discuss all eligible applications.
  • The group’s decision will be sent to the Executive Director, who will certify all funding decisions.
  • Decisions will be announced via e-mail mid October, with grant funds sent shortly afterwards.
