ABOUT THE CHRISTOPHER WEBBER MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP AND FUND

What is the Chris Webber Memorial Fellowship?
The Chris Webber Memorial Fellowship is a grant which supports the involvement of a member of the greater Bike & Build family in an affordable housing project.  The fellowship was established jointly by the Webber Family and by Bike & Build.

How many Fellows are funded each year?  And how much funding is available?
The Selection Committee will evaluate proposals on an individual basis; there is no minimum or maximum number of projects which will receive funding each year.  Awards are currently capped at $20,000 per project.

How do I apply to become a CWM Fellow?  What is the timeline for submitting applications and funding decisions?
Prospective CWM Fellows must submit an application describing the proposed project.  Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; funding decisions will be announced within six weeks of application deadline.

If selected fellowship recipients will receive a check for half of their funding upon announcement.  Following a mid-project progress report submitted by the recipient the Fellowship Committee will release the remainder of the funds.

How is the fund administered?  Does Bike & Build or the Webber family control the fund?
The Christopher Webber Memorial Fund is held in a charitable account with Fidelity.  The Webber Family and Bike & Build have appointed five individuals who will serve as stewards of the fund and form the Selection Committee that makes funding decisions.  They are:

  • Elana Bannerman (Bike & Build alumna)
  • Marc Bush (Bike & Build Founder and Executive Director, 2002-2005)
  • Amelia Hanley (Bike & Build Executive Director, 2006-2008)
  • Brendan Newman (Bike & Build Alumnus and Program Director, 2007-Present)
  • Nicholas Webber (Chris’s Brother)

How is the fund supported?
The fund is supported through private contributions and through Bike & Build’s annual Chris Webber Memorial Ride.

How can I make a contribution to the fund?
Contributions to the fund may be made through Bike & Build.  Please send a check payable to “Bike & Build – CWM Fund” to Bike & Build / 6109 Ridge Ave, Bldg 2 / Philadelphia, PA 19128.  You may also make an online credit card contribution.  To make a gift of securities or other assets, please contact .
