Sonya's bio:
Hey! So, as you can see from the top of this page, I?m Sonya. I?m from Setauket, NY, which is on Long Island, but I usually have to convince people that that?s really where I grew up. Currently, I?m in between college and some sort of higher educational experience in the next few years?so I decided, after my return home from CUS?08, that I would continue to enjoy what life has to offer?and sign up for Bike & Build again. My B&B story begins at the end of June 2007, when I saw the NUS?07 riders heading through Old Forge, NY. At the time, however, I had no idea what these riders were part of. It wasn't until, a few days later, I stumbled upon some pictures of people in similar jerseys to those I had seen that I learned about Bike & Build. For someone who is always looking for ways to challenge herself, and ways to volunteer, Bike & Build seemed almost too good to be true. I had to find out what this trip was all about firsthand. And so, just days after graduating from Syracuse University, I embarked on the most amazing two and a half months of my life, as a rider on CUS?08. Before we even hit the Pacific Ocean, I knew that I wanted to live the Bike & Build lifestyle for another summer. To me, the idea of spending every day outside on my bike, sleeping on a Thermarest surrounded by 30 friends in a different town every night, eating PB&J sandwiches (I can do five in 1 minute and 22 seconds, by the way), wearing spandex and working on the most ridiculously awesome tan lines I have ever had, all while building houses and helping to spread awareness for affordable housing, is the best way I could ever possibly spend a summer. Here?s a bit of insight into me: I like bikes, the color combo of bright blue and yellow, sunflower seeds, any activity involving water, roller coasters, star gazing, fresh squeezed orange juice (with TONS of pulp), Pop Rocks, collecting beach glass, any activity involving snow, The Food Network, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Storm Chasers, Man v. Food, the movie ?Hook,? riding in ambulances, playing field hockey, Spring Break Habitat for Humanity trips, the band Virginia Coalition, and crossing things off my Life?s To-Do list. I pedal with the toes of my left foot pointed inward and it looks ridiculous. On the first riding day of CUS?08, I managed to get five holes in one tube at a single time. B&Bers are the greatest breed of people I have ever met and I can?t wait to start headin? west with all of you!
