Paige's bio:
Hi! I'm Paige and I am a sophomore at Brown University. I study Human Biology, but secretly wish I majored in Religious Studies. I play club Ultimate Frisbee for Brown and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I grew up outside of St. Louis, Missouri and I enjoy running, reading and laughing. I am a really easy person to get along with, especially if you enjoy Harry Potter. I am pretty clumsy at all times but have somehow survived growing up mostly intact. I am interested in Bike and Build because I love the idea of biking across the country to see all different types of lifestyles and communities. I first learned about Bike and Build from some older teammates on the Ultimate Frisbee team and realized that it sounded the most intense and fun summer I could imagine. Affordable housing is an issue that will continue to be a problem across the country, especially with the growing economic downturn. Coming from outside of St. Louis, I have seen the effects of suburban sprawl and urban flight, leaving a low-income population within city limits. St. Louis also recently topped the list of most violent cities in the USA, which highlights the relationship between social and cultural problems and income. The push for affordable housing helps establish an infrastructure in communities across the country, whether it be rural or urban, east or west. I am really eager to get involved in the affordable housing project, because at times I feel like I am not contributing enough to society. Hopefully, Bike and Build will help not only me get more involved, but people from the Brown community and from my hometown alike. Raising awareness for issues such as these really helps people reach outside of their comfort zone and help someone else. I have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity a few times, helping to build houses for low-income families in St. Louis. I have been biking off and on for a couple of years now, and have competed in some triathlons. Other than that, I really enjoy biking just to get outside and get moving. I am really looking forward to meeting new people, seeing places across the country that I would never see otherwise and biking across my home state (yea Missouri).
