I took my first nap under a tree...New London, NH to Lebanon, NH. Today is our third bike day of rolling hills and was by far the most beautiful bike ride I have ever been on. This area is so different from any area I have ever been. Instead of one big or small body of water or a simple stream like I'm used to, there are a myriad of ponds and small lakes, with water falls here and there. You can't escape the green. You can't escape the fresh air. I can't really put into words how excited I was for this trip but it's turning out to be way better than I expected after the first few days. The scenery and even rainy weather have been extremely refreshing. While I feel like our crew is becoming a little family, I can tell that these people are going to have a big impact on me this summer. Aside from working together to promote an important cause, and our similar interests around cycling and traveling, getting to know my teammates on an individual basis is awesome. We're all really different, and we make it work, and then some. The trip leaders are working so hard and are really giving this adventure the quirky flavor necessary to keep us all sane. I'm a little surprised that my body isn't breaking down as much as I thought it was going to. My "energy legs" haven't quit on me yet. One of my friends Bobby did this route last year...and today I finally got to experience the beauty of being tired, stopping on the side of the road/lake, and taking a nap under a tree. I remember him mentioning this as a favorite memory from last year. It was awesome. Tomorrow is our second build day. |
Cydney's bio:
Hello hello, bonjour bonjour, hola hola, konnichiwa konnichiwawa! (just a little lyric from one of my favorite artists)?I?m Cydney, born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, but currently finishing my bachelors in Human Biology in California. While all of my friends are planning their lives and careers after graduation, I am eagerly awaiting something else a little more exhilarating: BIKING ACROSS THE NATION! I?ve been a swimmer my whole life but have recently found my love for biking. While I have always wanted to cross a nation, or even a state for that matter, with just the power of my body, it has never been all that realistic to use my expertise to ?swim across the US?. Ergo, when I discovered how awesome biking is, ?Biking the nation? seemed crazy and amazing, so I had to sign up! Although I do not have much experience with affordable housing groups, I have always wanted to do some sort of trip building houses like Habitat for Humanity. Therefore, when I found out about B&B, I could not resist participating in the ultimate affordable housing experience. After I learn a lot about the issues, I know I will become passionate about this cause. I?m already so excited to help and I haven?t even started? this is going to be a long school year? I spent last Spring in Chile and developed a real love for being on the move, meeting new people, and experiencing the pace of different communities. There are too many states that I haven?t had a chance to see and I can?t wait to explore them! I know what it?s like to be a part of something bigger than yourself, and I?m addicted to it. As we will be traveling with a team of amazing fellow bikers, I can?t wait to share this experience and work together. It?s so much more fun and rewarding to learn and make change with others by your side! I always enjoy what I choose to do with my time and I know I will love every minute of this experience. 3 Things you might not know about me: -I love mexican food on the beach. -If you haven't seen me dance at least once each day, something's wrong. -I love doing yoga to hip-hop, reggae, & rap.
