Thank You

This summer I met some of the most amazing and important people in my life.  Without these great friends I would not have been able to bring myself to continue our adventure. Many of us have never experienced such a tragic accident or lost a friend that felt like family.  I have, and can tell you that it does not change how painful each day moving forward is.  Bike & Build is an organization that brings people together whether they are riders, or families that are positively affected by our labor and /or donations.  It is the Bike & Build community that has made it possible for me to say that this summer was the single most amazing time of my life while realizing this summer was also the most trying time of my life.  I want to thank the entire Bike & Build community for their endless love and support for us,  but I want to give a special thanks to P2S 2010, Kristian, Rosemary, and Brendan for their incredible support in me.  I love you all, and I could not have done it without each and every one of you.

I love you all,
Brian
Brian's bio:

Hello Everyone!

Is it June 2010 YET?!?!

The Basics,

  • Age 23
  • Graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Design
  • Looking to go to Podiatry School
  • Can't wait to cross the country again!! P2S is going to be amazing!

I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2008. GO MOUNTAINEERS!!! If you have ever had the chance to ride around Boone and the surrounding towns it would make perfect sense why Lance was reinspired here.    The hills, trees, MOUNTAINS and the Blue Ridge Parkway can only lead Boone to be the best area to go cycling.

Riding Cross Country again is going to be an amazing experience, and I am excited about continuing my efforts to help afforable housing.  While I attended App State, I was a key member in our Chapter of Habitat for Humanity and continued on to be elected President for two years.  The role was demanding, but it was extremely rewarding bringing a group of people together and working hard for a great cause.   While President, I rode cross-country with Habitat Bicycle Challenge out of New Haven and had a Blast!

The Bike trip was amazing and I have so many great memories of the trip.  Some of them include:

  • Meeting new people
  • Visiting small town America
  • Rodeo
  • Junkyard artwork
  • THE BILLBOARDS
  • Falling Water
  • Architecture
  • Golden Gate Bridge
  • Estes Park
  • SO MUCH MORE

After college I went up to Maryland.  While I was up there I built cabinetry for Custom Sport Fishing Yachts.  I loved the work, but I was itching to go cross-country again.  I did a little research and found Bike & Build and immediatly knew I would be on my way to the west coast all over again!  I recently moved back home and am preparing to head off to Podiatry School.  Woodworking will always be a passion of mine, and I hope some day to begin restoring furniture.  Along with woodworking I love throwing pottery.  I started throwing pottery my senior year and have been throwing ever since.  The arts are a huge part of my life and I love viewing works of art all over the country.  One of my favorite parts of my last trip was going to all of the antique shops along the way seeing the different types off collection as you move from the east to the west. Feel free to email me if you want to see some of my work!  BDHochman@gmail.com

My home is Miami, Fl, and as BEAUTIFUL as the landscape is here, I can not wait to be on the road again and see all of the wonderful places this country has to offer.  In the meantime I am working hard to master the unicycle.  A neighbor rode by and yelled out "it's easier with 2 wheels." I just started a week ago and have made some progress. UPDATE: A few months practice... Still easier on 2 wheels.

My favorite part of my last trip was the people we met in all of the small towns the group passed through.  These small towns are the true heart and soul of our Country!  I am SOOO excited to travel on a new route and see new places and meet new people.

I am extrememly excited about meeting all the riders on P2S 2010!

Affordable housing is a HUGE problem in our country and around the world.  Please become part of the solution and support an organization that is helping to solve the problem.  You can help Bike & Build with a donation through me, Brian Hochman.  Please act NOW!!!
