"The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little." Franklin D. Roosevelt
Hello there, I'm Jen and I graduated with a BS in Biology from New England College in 2008. I am currently working as a Physical Therapy Aide and am applying to graduate programs for my Doctorate in Physical Therapy for the fall of 2010. I played ice hockey and lacrosse in college and I am now pretty much obsessed with riding my bike. I am always down for a good time and making the best out of every situation.
I learned about Bike&Build from a really good friend of mine. She suggested we do the Capital Ride together instead of going on vacation and I applied that day. CR09 was the best two weeks of my life. I had the privilege to embark on an amazing adventure with 20+ incredible people. I think the most interesting thing that I didn't expect was the generosity of hosts towards us and how genuinely interested and excited they were about what we were doing. I loved the experience so much that I ride my bike every chance I get and I volunteer with my local Habitat chapter on Saturdays. The Capital Ride, however, left me with some unfulfilled expectations that I know can only be satisfied by a cross country trip. So here I am. (Secretly I chose which DPT programs I was going to apply to based on when they started and only applied to those that started in the fall because nothing was going to stop me from doing B&B)
I had a bit of experience with Habitat for Humanity prior to B&B but the majority of my experience is through the Capital Ride and working with Habitat since then. I absolutely love building. Build days are my favorite. I have learned so much from all of the site supervisors and other volunteers at build sites. Working side by side with the family that will get the house that I am helping to build is a really exciting experience.
