Hey hey, my name is Tyler Bowers. I was born and raised in the good ol' town of Fort Wayne, Indiana. I am 20 years old and attend IPFW University, where I am a business major. I attended Trine University my freshman year of school, where I was part of the lacrosse team. I decided to move back home to Fort Wayne and attend IPFW going into my sophemore year.
I heard about Bike and Build when I came across the website while shopping for a new bike earlier this summer. I, ironically enough, had just been talking with a friend of mine about riding across the country next summer. When I saw what Bike & Build was, I knew I had to be a part of this organization and commit my summer to riding and building. Throughout high school I frequently helped out with building projects with my church. I have never worked with any affordable housing organization, but I look forward to being a part of this one.
I am extremely excited to ride across the country! I have recently been reading Travels with Charlie by John Steinbeck, which is a detailed look at Steinbeck's travels across the country traveling the back roads. This book has done nothing but put an even greater longing to see our country from the back roads and to see the areas I would never get the opportunity to see while traveling the highway. I have never been west of Oklahoma and I am looking very forward to getting to the Pacific and to go through the mountains. This is going to be a great summer.
