Growing up I moved around ALOT. Seven states and one US territory in all, not to mention all of the moves within each town, so I know what it is like not to have a place to call home. Bike and Build is a great cause, because they know it is about so much more than just having a roof over your head. It is about coming together for a family, so they can experience a lifetime of security and happiness. I learned about the affordable housing situation last year when I earned my EMT license. While doing ambulance ride-alongs in Savannah, I was able to see another side of the city I would have never experienced otherwise. It brought the situation home for me and now I want to reach out and help those in need.
And what better way than to bike across the country while doing it! I am an avid cyclist, often treking out to Tybee Beach (a barrier island off the Georgia coast), so Bike and Build was truly the perfect fit. I cannot wait to spend next summer biking from New Hampshire to Vancouver and more importantly helping people every step of the way!
