Hi!  My name is Tess Curran, I am 22 years old and a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology.  I am from Sudbury, MA, a small town outside of Boston.  I am an advertising, marketing and communications major at FIT.  I hope to work in public relations once finished with school.  At school, I am a student ambassador and member of the judicial board.  I am also on a variety of clubs relating to my major, including the Public Relations Student Society of America, and Women in Cable and Telecommunications.

A friend of my sisters participated in Bike and Build several years
ago, when she told me about her experience I knew it was something that I wanted to be a part of as well.  I want to dedicate my time to help those in need while I have the flexibility as a student to do so. Now more than ever it is important to reach out and lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors who need extra support.  I can’t wait to see the progress made at the end of each build day and be able to learn about the communities and those living there.

Up until this time, the focus of my volunteer work experiences has
been with heath care organizations.  Years back my aunt passed away from pancreatic cancer.  Since that time, I have been involved with the Lustgarten Foundation, which focuses efforts on funding Pancreatic Cancer issues and research. I have worked hard educating friends and neighbors on pancreatic cancer with a success rate of raising monies for the Lustgarten Foundation.  I have also volunteered at my local community hospital‘s public relations department promoting volunteerism.  I know the lack of affordable housing is an issue in my area as well as nation wide.  My lack of previous volunteer experience in this arena, does not negate my interest in volunteering my time this summer to raise awareness and monies for the cause of affordable housing.  I bring my dedication to raising awareness and monies for a worthwhile cause, this now being affordable housing.  I hope alsothrough example to encourage friends and family to donate their timeand efforts to raise attention and monies for affordable housingorganization as well.

The thing I am most nervous about are the Rocky Mountains.  I’ve driven out west, and they Rocky’s looked pretty steep from my seat in the car, I can't imagine them on a bike!   I am most looking forward to meeting new people from around the country.  This will be such an eye-opening experience, I look forward spend time with teammates and learn fromall those around me.
