Hi Everyone!
I’m Ali Pirro from Bayport, NY and am currently a sophomore at Tulane University. I plan to double major in Finance and Communication Studies, and stay for a fifth year to receive my Masters in Accounting. I love to do anything and everything fun…running, playing tennis, biking, riding horses, you name it! My friends describe me as “crazy and ridiculously outgoing” and I love to do things that are challenging and out of the ordinary.
Throughout my high school years I was very involved in extracurricular activities, including varsity tennis and student council, and was named the Valedictorian and Senior Scholar Athlete of the Class of 2008. A large portion of my summers was spent selling fresh baked breads and sweets, and donating the money I earned to the American Red Cross for victims of Hurricane Katrina. I have continued my involvement at Tulane through my participation in Habitat for Humanity, tutoring at Arthur Ashe Elementary School, a Burkenroad Internship through Tulane’s A.B. Freeman School of Business, and the Student Conduct Board.
I cannot begin to describe just how excited I am to have the opportunity to participate in a Bike & Build tour! From the second I “discovered” Bike & Build I knew it was exactly how I wanted to spend my summer and could not wait to get started. Biking across the country while working with Habitat for Humanity sounded nothing short of amazing and was not an opportunity that I was willing to let pass by. This is a great way to give back to the community and raise awareness about affordable housing. I believe everyone deserves the comfort of having a place they can call home, regardless of their financial situation. Bike & Build is the perfect way to get involved, have a great time, and meet new people. It really is the opportunity of a lifetime.
Going to school in New Orleans has given me the chance to participate in Habitat for Humanity and help rebuild our amazing city. It is incredible to see how excited people become, and how grateful they are when we help build their new homes. Building in New Orleans has furthered my understanding of just how important it is to do whatever I can to help change someone’s life for the better.
Almost everyone I tell about my plans for this summer think I’m completely crazy, but I know this is going to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. There will be some rough times and some sore muscles but I am extremely determined to do this and can’t wait to meet all of you and get started!!!
