Jessica's bio:
Hey everybody!! My name is Jessica Crumpler. I am from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I am a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill majoring in Exercise and Sport Science. I started my college career at North Carolina State University as a communication major, but after my sophomore year, I decided to transfer to UNC and major in something completely different. I have NO CLUE what I want to do with my life when I graduate in May. When I came to UNC I tried out for the Novice rowing team. At the time, I had never rowed before. One year later, I am on the Varsity Women?s Rowing team at Chapel Hill!! I absolutely LOVE the sport of rowing. I also enjoy running. I ran my first half-marathon last year and now I am hooked. I want to run a full marathon one day. I love to play and watch sports (basketball, soccer, football); especially Carolina athletics (GO HEELS!!!). I heard about Bike and Build from one of my teammates at the beginning of the semester. I knew that I wanted to spend my last summer as a college student biking across the US. Growing up, I worked with multiple affordable housing groups in Winston-Salem. My church youth group had close ties with Habitat for Humanity. We spent numerous Saturdays volunteering helping to construct Habitat homes. On college and youth trips we would spend a week at a time building affordable housing homes in cities as far away as Montgomery, Alabama and Rutherfordton, North Carolina. There are so many people across the US that have hopes of one day being able to say they are going home their own house. Groups such as Bike and Build and Habitat for Humanity are making such dreams come true. I want to be a part of such an experience and what better way than to help by biking across the US? As a 22 year old, I can honestly say that I have NEVER seen the Pacific Ocean. I think the thought of biking to the west coast sounds like an AMAZING experience. I am excited to see the US from a different point of view. Traveling by bike, I will really be able to view the different landscapes of the US. I have to say that I am a beginner biker. I do not think I have biked more than the distance from my apartment to class, but I am excited to learn to love the sport of biking. More than anything, I am excited to work alongside students just like me helping to make a difference all across the US. Everybody needs a place to call HOME, and we are helping such dreams come true! :) MY BLOG: http://jessicasjourneytoca.blogspot.com/ FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=11813345
