Greetings fellow Bike & Builders! My name is Kelsey Breck (obvi) and I'm a 21 year-old Bike & Build alum (NUS07) who is back for more :) I first chose to do Bike & Build on a recommendation from a friend and also because, as a Detroiter, I have seen time and time again the need for more affordable housing in my city and across the nation. I have spent much of the last year and a half living and working abroad on issues related to rights to housing and sustainable development and I couldn't be more excited to bring the knowledge I've gained from this home and apply it in my own community. Affordable housing is a worldwide problem and I can't wait to help tackle it with the help of all of you, one mile at a time. As a leader, I hope to facilitate an experience for every rider that is just as or even more awesome than mine was in 2007. I know this is a challenge, because NUS07 was very very high on the awesomeness scale, but I'm willing to step up to the plate and do my best. I am also looking forward to working closely with the community leaders in all the small towns and big cities we visit and becoming a stronger member of the community that is working so hard to bring more affordable housing to families across the nation. Although I will be sad to spend yet another summer away from the beautiful city of Detroit (no sarcasm there, born and raised and couldn't be prouder) I can't think of a better cause or more worthwhile journey than Bike & Build. I am beyond delighted to work with all of you before, during and after this crazy adventure. Prepare yourself for a summer of peanut butter sandwiches, church floors and PURE SWEETNESS! Now get off the computer, get on your bike, and start to pedal for change :)
