Rudy's bio:

Hello all! My name is Rudy Kye Hansen and I’m a 24-year-old from Minneapolis, MN. I am a modern dancer and have also done some work in the aerial dance field. I love yoga, so if any of you are interested in doing a little yoga on the trip let me know! I hope to one day become a somatic practitioner. I work as a support counselor for vulnerable adults. So, needless to say I am quite busy. I am looking forward to this coming summer and the new challenges and rewards it will bring, most summers I participate in the MS 150, but I am feeling a little more adventurous this year and am excited to bike with a new group, see the country, and work for affordable housing! My past experience with affordable housing is one that is very personal for me. My mother raised my brother and I in section eight housing, along with the assistance of the AFDC, she is now a nurse and has taught in places such as Johns Hopkins and the Virgin Islands. I have heard her say many times that she would not have been able to obtain her degree and come so far had it not been for the affordable housing and assistance she received. I think it is important for me to learn as much as I can to help others further their lives by having a stable, safe and permanent place to come home to. A friend of mine participated in Bike & Build in one of the first years it existed. She had such great stories and memories from the trip that she inspired a friend and I to apply too! I love to bike and am continuously trying to challenge myself, this year I will attempt to brave the cold Minnesota winters and bike on through till summer comes! I know that participating in Bike and Build will help me learn a lot about not only biking and affordable housing, but also about our country, community, and the effect of civic action. I really look forward to learning and growing through this experience, as well as work with a group of such phenomenal people! I am so excited to bike across the country! I don’t have much experience biking continuously other than the MS 150, but I am ready to train. I am excited for the challenge and I can’t wait to get started!
