Christopher's bio:

Hey everyone!

I’m Chris McMillan from Redwood City, California.  I’m 19 years old and a member of Dartmouth’s class of 2013.  Though my studies are currently focused on economics, I look forward to exploring a variety of other academic interests, including philosophy and creative writing.  My major is, as with most of my classmates, quite undecided.

My main extra-curricular activity is singing, and has been for most of my life.  After graduating from high school and leaving the boys’ choir that I sang in for ten years, I was overjoyed to join the Cords, one of Dartmouth’s most talented acappella groups.  I gladly dedicate many hours of rehearsal to this group, since in it I have found my closest friends and have continued actively pursuing one of my deepest passions.

It was also through the Cords that I discovered Bike & Build.  A number of fellow singers are alumni of this same tour, and each one brought back incredible stories as encouragement for my participation.  They didn’t have much convincing to do, however.  I have been an enthusiastic cyclist for several years, a passion that was embodied by the Club Cycling Team I founded at my high school.  As I leave that legacy behind, I intend to join the Club Cycling Team here at Dartmouth as well.   It goes without saying that I find the prospect of biking across the country absolutely thrilling, as well as a bit intimidating!

I also have a history with Habitat for Humanity, having completed a charity project in high school based on local Affordable Housing issues.  This included research and interviews, though focusing strongly on volunteer build days with H4H.  What I came to enjoy and appreciate more and more as my work progressed was the variety of dedicated people I found working by my side.  Whether they were serving in the Peace Corps or were the future owners of the home being constructed, these fast friends made my work all the more personal and meaningful.  After those wonderful experiences, I am eager to fit local H4H work into my hectic schedule here at Dartmouth.  Even more exciting is the incredible amount of work accomplished, distance covered, and sheer dedication shown by Bike & Build members, and the chance to take part in such an incredible adventure this summer!
