Hi! My name is Mike Linskey. I am a freshman at William Paterson University in New Jersey. I am majoring in Math and Secondary Education. I am a member of the William Paterson Pioneers baseball team. Through middle school and high school, I was very involved in many sports, baseball, however, proved to be the winner and I love everything about it.  I not only greatly enjoy playing it, but I also love watching it, especially when the Yankees are playing. One of the reasons that I love baseball so much is because it is an outdoor sport. Even though the weather is not always the greatest for playing outside, you can’t beat playing on those beautiful spring days. I love the outdoors and enjoy everything about being outside. Some of my favorite outdoor activities, besides baseball, are fishing, running, and hiking.

In high school I was involved with some of the service groups, especially Habitat for Humanity. I had a greater interest in this group than in any other group because I enjoy building things. The best feeling is seeing in reality the thing that you dreamed up in your head; that is a great sense of accomplishment. Along with my involvement in Habitat for Humanity, I have done some other service work. My most memorable charitable activity was a 5K I organized last summer with my girlfriend (Kathleen Oroho). We organized the 5K to benefit Broadway House for Continuing Care which is the only non-profit, special care facility for people living with HIV and AIDS in New Jersey. The 5K was such a memorable experience because one it was probably one of the hardest things Kathleen or I had done in our lives, and two it was amazing to see how big of a difference a little hard work can make in the life of someone else. In our first 5K, we had about 300 participants and we raised over $8,000.

Kathleen and I are planning to make that run an annual event; however we are also looking for something else that gives us the chance to enjoy the outdoors and help other people. Bike & Build seems to be like the perfect fit. The tours encompass everything that I enjoy, being outside and helping other people. I am so excited to really get a chance to appreciate all the beautiful landscapes and sights of the ride, which are so easy to take for granted. Kathleen and I are so excited to experience this together and we plan on making the Capital Ride the first of hopefully many Bike & Build Tours. We plan on participating in at least one (hopefully more) cross-country trip. Bike & Build offers an amazing opportunity and can simply not be passed up. Kathleen and I are so excited for all the beautiful sights and wonderful people we will get to meet and we cannot wait to start our first tour!!!
